Birds of a Feather – Natural Upholstery with Organic Fabric
Chairs that take flight!
I’m so excited to share these beautiful bird chairs that I recently reupholstered with 100% natural latex foam, luxurious wool batting and organic cotton fabrics. Kristi chose a different colorway of the same bird patterned cover fabric (by Birch Fabrics – available from Fabric Worm) for each of her four chairs, which I managed to finish just in time for the arrival of her new baby!
Four colorways of Birch Fabric’s organic cotton ‘Flight’ fabric
Before & After:
Before reupholstery: Brown fabric with a pink plastic edging..
Pink plastic trim.. uck!
Wool felt replaced the plastic trim & natural latex foam provides cushioning
The messy job of deconstruction sometimes turns up fun surprises…
We found a Duck!
We found this tiny duck inside one of the chairs during upholstery tear-down
The finished set ready to fly!

The craft of (RE)upholstery is, without a doubt, a key solution to the problem of furniture waste (12 million tons of furniture go to landfills each year in the U.S. alone). Please consider supporting the National Upholstery Association in their efforts to expand professional upholstery education. We need more 'boots on the ground' to do this work. Thank you.
