The New Year brings transition from the gifting season to the ‘comfort food’ season, so it seems appropriate to feature a delightful group of ladies who have transformed the concept of ‘give and take’ to ‘give and give’ in the form of comfort food. “The Nine Nanas”, who reside not far from Graceland in West Tennessee, have made it their mission to create happiness… with organic baked goods.
In the dark of night
At 4am they begin their daily routine — a ritual that no one, not even their husbands, knew about for 30 years. – Daily Good.org
They take turns sifting flour, washing eggs and prepping pans to bake hundreds of pound cakes to help their neighbors.
It all began with the inspiration of the generous ways of their grandparents MaMaw and PaPaw. They began helping others in their community, dropping care packages in the wee hours of the morning on the porches of families who had fallen on hard times – always anonymously.
Three decades into their secret mission, their husbands found out, and soon after that their grown children where brought into the endeavor. More eager hands built a thriving business, which now sells the delicious cakes online, and has contributed upwards of $900,000 of happiness to their local community.
