Making a window seat cushion out of natural latex foam?
Here’s how to figure out how much it will weigh:
Natural Latex Foam weighs about 1/2 lb per board foot
1 board foot = 12 x 12 x 1-inch thick
To see how much a latex cushion will weigh, measure the size in inches
Board feet = (L x W x thickness) ÷ 144
Example: (92 x 30 x 6) ÷ 144 = 115 bf
115 bf x .5 lb/bf = 57.5 lbs
This video demonstrates (in a kinda slapstick style) how difficult it can be to handle a heavy piece of latex by yourself:
Side note regarding size of latex piece in this video: a 92-inch cushion requires gluing two pieces together. The longest piece you can get is 79.5 inches (unless you buy an entire king size mattress core, which would give you 83.5 inches).
