When’s the last time you ran across something that took you right back to kid-hood? I recently had the pleasure of restoring a 1960’s sling chair for a client, which reminded me of my parents’ house. The house I grew up in was a beautiful mid-century split level, designed by my uncle, Richard Brooks, who also designed his own home in Concord, Massachusetts.
It follows that I grew up around the furniture that fit those homes – simple, comfortable and ‘slim’ – nothing like the overstuffed behemoths of later times. I loved it then and still do.
Side & back views show why this chair is so comfortable: you are cradled in a sling!
With a little research I found out this is a Falcon Chair, created by Sigurd Ressell for Vatne Mobler, a Norwegian company.

Do you have any idea where one can find replacement cushions for Falcon chairs?

I don’t have a source for replacement cushions made specifically for the Falcon chairs. A good upholsterer should be able to build new cushions using the old ones as a guide.

Any idea where I can find an intact sling for the falcon chair? I’d like to keep it original if possible. But I if it’s not worth it I’ll take a remanufactured one.

That’s a shame. I’m sorry, I don’t currently know of a source for replacement slings made specifically for the Falcon chairs. If it’s not chewed beyond repair, then a good upholsterer should be able to repair it for you. If it’s really badly chewed, but still ‘recognizable’ then a good upholsterer should be able to build you a new sling using the old one as a guide. Carla

There may be a supplier out there – I am just not aware of one. If anyone reading this knows, please let me know so I can pass it on. As to pads on the feet, it’s been a long time since I worked on this, but I think there were screw-in feet (don’t quote me on that, as I said – long time…) Wish I could be more help – maybe someone will chime in with more info here. My mom has several of these pieces: a tall chair, a short chair, a side table and a footstool. The only piece that is in tact is the short chair. Every other piece has a broken leg. Is it common for these pieces to break like this? Where could I get replacement legs to fix them all?

The chair I worked on seemed very sturdy, so based on my limited experience, I would NOT expect that it is common for these pieces to break easily (perhaps your mom’s had some rough use?). I am from Vatne, Møre og Romsdal, Norway, where these chairs were made. I dont think there is any place you can buy replacements for these chairs. I think the only source is already existing chairs.

I really love these chairs, but the tall chair has a broken leg, and I have a hard time to part with this chair, nonetheless.
If anyone is willing to donate the front left leg (the one with the company insignia on it), that would be extremely appreciated. I see that some chair owners have experienced this dilemma, as well.

Thank you for this posting and input from all. I have a falcon chair, the short variety with arms with tripod type steamed wood base that’s held up beautifully… but for the seat part of the cushion. I’ll stop looking for an original and go find a good upholster!
